A year at our school
Harmony Day at Green Square
Friday 21 March was a momentous day in our school's history as we celebrated our first Harmony Day! We came to school dressed in bright orange shirts or beautiful traditional clothing from our cultures. Once we arrived at school, we moved around our learning places to visit each of the six habitable continents of the world: North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Africa. As we visited each continent, we participated in many exciting activities. After our global voyage, we gathered as a school to sing "Welcome To All People", a song that celebrates Australia's multicultural identity.
If you go down in the woods today your're sure of a big surprise...
What a fabulous day we had in celebrating the Great Green Square Teddy Bear's Picnic! We all brought our favourite bears to school, dressed in our best 'beary' costumes and went to 'the woods' for a fabulous day! We went on bear adventures to discover treasure, created beautiful artworks, read stories and much more. In a year where we are establishing traditions, The Great Green Square Teddy Bear's Picnic has become one that we know will be enduring!
Anzac Day at Green Square
Commemorating Anzac Day will always be an important day in our school calendar. We were honoured to hold our first ever Anzac Day commemorations in 2025 with a thoughtful and meaningful ceremony led by the children in Eucalyptus pod. Through words and song they invited children and families to honour all those who have served our country. Together we laid the three wreaths that were made collaboratively by every student in the school and shared the last part of the ceremony together, the ode, sounding of the Last Post and minutes silence with solemnity and reflection. Thank you Green Square community for a very reverential honouring of an important day.
NAIDOC Week at Green Square
This year our school community came together to commemorate NAIDOC Week in a vibrant assembly that celebrated the histories, cultures, languages and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The NAIDOC Week theme for 2025, "The Next Generation: Vision, Strength & Legacy", was interwoven throughout our commemoration with each Pod presenting the Acknowledgement of Country that they had written. We were honoured to listen to Luna's mum, Cahlee, share her insights about the importance of NAIDOC Week and how we can all continue to learn from and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples not just one week every year, but every week of every year. Cahlee spoke powerfully about what it means to be part of the next generation of reconciliation in Australia and encouraged all of us - students, educators and parents - to consider what we can do to walk the path of reconciliation in our own lives.
"We love our school for its supportive community and commitment to every student’s success. Our child feels safe and inspired every day.” — a parent of Green Square Public School.
